MESH City solutions may not be able to persuade people to abandon their cars all-together, but they just may be able to make car use more energy efficient. Recently, Ford Motor Company and Google joined up to explore how the power of cloud-based predictive algorithms can increase the efficiency of car travel.
The way it works is simple. A driver's typical destination and route choices are defined over a period of time and recorded into Google pattern-matching datasets. With enough data available to make predictive decisions the system can suggest the most efficient routes to a typical destination given traffic issues, weather, terrain, and other factors that determine fuel use. In addition, the Ford car will automatically "tune" itself to provide the most efficient engine operation profile for the route and driver behaviour.
